1:00pm: whut
Hello, fellows and fellowettes! Time for an update on the life of Vladimir M. Respectable.

As some (two) of you know, I got fired on Monday. I was fired because I could not pick pieces of meat apart fast enough. The joke is on them, though, because this means I no longer work there. Take that! But no sooner had I been fired than nothing happened, because what happened happened afterwards. What occurred, this morning in fact, was I got a call from Yrgalem, the Ethiopian place down the street. They want me to help in the kitchen, which I think might be all right. I'm still terrified, though. What happens if I get the job? That could seriously cut back on the trips I have planned.

Also my cousin is coming this afternoon. And his fiancée! I think this will be the first time I've met her. Exciting!

2:16pm: It is a SLOW DAY... at the laundromat.
I update here because I am bored. Bored in the laundromat. They have Tetris, and I am a whore for Tetris. Add those terms and you get about ten minutes. Then it was time to move the laundry. I find the music on that machine fascinating. Some guy is playing it now and I can hear it over here.

Right now I am passing the time by telling you about what an interesting time I'm having. I think it's about time to fold everything now.

5:21pm: Let's talk
Saturday (long ago!) I saw some strange things. I was over at Best Buy wondering if they had the new Zelda yet (they did not), when I saw a lady with a Passion of the Christ DVD and a Brokeback Mountain soundtrack. I thought that was strange, but as I was walking through the music aisles later (this is necessary to reach the DVDs) they played The Press Corpse.

I mean, sure, yeah, corporations feast on the rebellious appeal of these bands, but somehow playing a song like that in a temple of corporation seems odd.

In other news, there's really no news. My diet (which I call the Stupid Diet) would be working better if it weren't for Passover and Easter. It's still working, just more slowly. Come on, Stupid Diet! I want to be able to eat shit from places I pass on the street again!

I find this hilarious for some reason.

5:01pm: oh god oh god
Gogol Bordello is coming. Since Pinky linked Start Wearing Purple I've developed a huge craving for them. So this is very convenient! The Annex appears to be where everyone cool comes these days. Which sounds kind of dirty.

Also! Sports. I bet you didn't know I could talk about sports! Well, you were right, so I will keep this brief. It was a very tense match. Over 110 minutes of hot hockey action in Ashwaubenon, which I watched on a television which was not in Ashwaubenon at all.

12:04pm: I am not fit
My chest feels like it is being pressed with an increasing number of rocks. Thirty second abs should not hurt like this two days after. But doubtless I'll do it again, because fifteen seconds is embarrassing. I need to get to the point where I can suppress sneezes again. Also I'm hoping this will help me to be able to walk for more than fifteen minutes without my sides screaming at me.

11:53am: I'm not sure I really want to do this
Taken from Mr. Bhool. Johari and Nohari, go!

And now an actual update maybe? I am not as limber as I used to be, so I think I will resume the stretches I did in cross country in high school. It is a good chance to sit in one place and not do very much. I crave pizza daily. For some reason. I think I'm going to move ahead with my "build mac lol" plan, which I have never mentioned here before but is my plan to build a Mac. Astonishing! I'll first get a hard drive and make sure I can get it to work with my dad's computer before I get all the parts, but I believe I will be doing this. Don't tell Steve, OK!

That is all I think.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your livejournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to. I will additionally be providing some information on the songs I list and why I like them and also will link some files which you cannot download because that would be illegal. This is not a part of the meme but you can certainly do it also if you want! (to get sued by the recording industry)

1. Ноль - Улица Ленина (Nol - Ulitsa Lenina)
This song I first heard in Russian 101 (Brian was an awesome dude), and it captured me. I now love Ноль, but this is still my favorite. Fedya (Fyodor Chistyakov) carries it with his bayan and his eerie, mushy vocals.
2. Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - 20 Minutes of Oxygen
A fine song about time travel. I first heard this on PA Radio (no longer in being, sadly), and it got me hooked on DHT. This is a pattern for a number of songs I heard on PA Radio, in fact.
3. Bad Religion - Shattered Faith
Bad Religion is an example of a band for which the pattern was followed, but this is not the precipitating song. I've only been listening to this song for a few months, but I like it. So here it is on the list!
4. The Blasters - I'm Shakin'
Saxes for sex. I mean really.
5. Spoon - The Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine
A fine song about practicing for a part in a play that may contain homoeroticism. I had a hard time picking this one, which was initially my favorite from their new CD, because I've really warmed up to the CD. Initially I wasn't terribly impressed, but listening has brought me around, which brings me to my next choice.
6. Audioslave - Dandelion
I'm almost ashamed to like this. The tone is stupidly happy and bouncy, and it's not about anything that I can quite get my mind around, let alone internalize. It sounds a lot like stuff from Euphoria Morning. Out of Exile (the album this song is on) also took some getting used to, after first seeming to fall short of my expectations.
7. Our Lady Peace - The Needle and the Damage Done
This space was going to be filled by Vladimir Visotsky but then this song came on and I realized I could not ignore it. So here it is. It's Neil Young, played by OLP. Isn't that really all anyone needs out of life?

So yeah, I just figured out maybe the cable modem is a jerk and would like to be reset before it looks at new computers. I AM A BRIGHT BOY. Now let us discuss things.

I don't actually think yesterday happened.
HERE IS WHYCollapse )

Gifts of the season include shirts, socks, DVD burner, flashlight, and chocolate (to name my favorites). Also people who sent cards (all two of you, one of whom cannot read this hooray) I do not have your cards because I am not at home hooray!

I will probably be seeing those tomorrow.

1:03am: Two quick things
One: Look, new journal name! I was minding my own business when a strange attractor leapt from an alley and beat me with a copper pipe. The name is entirely unrelated to this anecdote!

Two: Sayonara, suckers! Tomorrow evening I will be departing for my lair in an undisclosed location, which is undisclosed so you do not know that it is Ithaca, New York. You have not the faintest whit of a notion! So advanced are my methods of secrecy. I will be returning to the land of known whereabouts on the 28th, so mark your calendars, or not if you do not have calendars.

In the meantime, I suspect I might be able to get online from time to time but I will be required for various duties of the gorging nature so I will not be available at all times! Also we might play Pictionary.

Have good and healthy holidays, you animals!

7:40pm: I am sick
Sick, sick, sick. I feel weak and I can't turn my head without falling over and my hair has attained sentience and hates me.

On a plus note, I got to see my cousin who is awesome plus one, and her daughters who are no less awesome but a lot louder. Chicago is the place to see cousins.

While there, what should come into my possession but a sexy DVD burner? Well, I thought quite a few things should have but what did was the DVD burner, which is still quite good! I cannot use it for another month though because my grandparents need something to give me, and since I have very few needs that are not covered by eating and sleeping this will have to be it.

2:28am: Tommy Thompson is the only real governor I have ever known
Today it was somewhat chilly, so I engaged in one of winter's greatest pleasures: standing over a steam pit. Perhaps you are somewhere there are no steam pits; or, perhaps you have never noticed them. These are possibilities! Let me therefore describe a steam pit. More than you ever wanted to know, some of it possibly made up!Collapse )

Other news! There are trees on the corner that are very pretty right now, and I wish I had my glasses so I could see them better.

Also! My mom came back from DC today, and on the plane with her was Tommy Thompson. He once tripped her at a football game while she was pregnant! Also he was the governor. He seems to think he knows her; perhaps he recognizes her from somewhere. Maybe? I am uncertain. Maybe someone told him about her while he was Secretary of HHS.

It is a truth. Anyway, today I recorded me some Randy Newman from plastic discs spun on a revolving drum! Sail Away and Little Criminals were had. When I was younger I would listen to them incessantly, which may now that I think about it not have contributed overmuch to my civic spirit and good will. Sail Away is the perfect album for a crusty old individual like me, which as I just said may be why, having listened to it in my formative years, I am a now a crusty old individual (like me). I am pleased! And I now feel like pita pizza. That is what I would eat as I listened.

Also I vacuumed and cleaned the cats. Those cats must shed their own weight every couple days.

  5. walking:
Walking is enjoyable for myriad reasons. It just feels good, to start. It gets you places. You can see things while you walk. If it is not tremendously hot out, then the air feels fine. If it is tremendously hot, then the air at least smells fine. There are these flowering bushes we have around here that do nothing but sit there and every so often smell nice. Fantastic times walking!

My tongue has only just recovered from a bout of increased hostility. The conflict, which began nearly two decades ago with the construction by my teeth of a barricade tooth in the middle of my hard palate (a clear breach of intersystemic law), has once again settled down.

Also I will be incommunicado starting middle of Saturday until late Monday. I'm going to Maine to celebrate my grandfather's awesome birthday, which is today. Or yesterday if you live east of Chicago. Anyway, that is where I'll be, eating cake and wondering why it's so fucking hot there when half a degree south back home it is nice and cool. California Gov. Schwarzenegger's office is accepting calls from anywhere regarding their marriage equality bill. It passed both houses of their legislature, but needs the Governer's approval. It's all automated, so you don't have to talk to anyone.

Follow these directions:
1. Call the Governor: 916-445-2841 (This number is listed at www.governor.ca.gov)
2. Push: 2 (voice your opinion on legislation)
3. Push: 1 (gender-neutral marriage bill - Senate Bill 849)
4. And push: 1 to support marriage equality
